Communications (MIMIC Simulator)
|
|
|
|
MIMIC Virtual Lab creates
a real world lab environment with a network of Cisco Routers and Switches. It
gives hands-on learning experience without buying expensive equipment.
MIMIC Virtual Lab is for beginners interested in familiarizing themselves
with the complex environment and for intermediate or expert users looking to
sharpen their skills and move to a higher level. It gives a safe environment
to practice. You don't have to worry about bringing down the equipment/network
and affecting other users.
MIMIC gives Network Engineers an ability to practice for certifications instead
of just reading instructions. It enables Training organization to give a lab
to students with the classroom training or e-learning courses. Students can
interact with Routers and Switches, just like with real devices.
The Lab
Interact with the routers and switches, just like real devices:
- Network of 11 devices
- Cisco Routers (2501, 2524, 4500 and 7531)
- Cisco Switches (2916, 3548)
- Five end systems
- LAN, WAN and Serial links
Users can Telnet in to any of these devices from local or remote
machines as if they are connecting to real devices. Any number of
users can connect at a time. It fully supports Cisco IOSŪ software
and SNMPv1, v2, v2c, v3.
Device Operations
- Logging in/out
- Get into and out of different modes - User, Privileged, Configuration, Interface
- Set passwords, IP addresses, clock rates, hostname, bandwidth
- Assign routing protocols - RIP, IGRP
- Ping other devices on the network
- Save/load configurations
- Boot using flash or TFTP protocol
- Configuration of CDP, PPP, Frame Relay and OSPF protocols
- and many other fuctions required for certifications
Lab Operations
- Start/Stop devices, individually or in a group
- Save/Load a configuration of the network
- View configuration information of a device or the entire network
- Troubleshoot
- View the topology with connections and addresses
- Open Telnet sessions
- Context sensitive help
You can also discover and cofigure using Cisco Network Management applications
such as CiscoWorks, CiscoWorks 2000, CiscoView and CEMF (CDM, GSR Manager),
just like real devices. All the changes done using IOS are visible via management
applications and vice versa.
If you are interested in creating your own devices and topology,
MIMIC Simulator tool kit is also available. You can simulate
as many as 10,000 devices in a lab. It includes MIMIC Recorder to
record Cisco devices to help create the lab topology you need.

Fidelia
(NetVigil)
|
|
|
|
Fidelia offers easy to use, real-time fault and performance management products
for your IT infrastructure. Both NetVigil as well as the entry level Helix offer
end to end monitoring of your applications, networks and servers
with a strong focus on relating the performance of the service with the underlying
server or network performance.
Key features:
- Runs on Linux, Windows, Solaris
- Integrated SQL database for storing trend data for several years
- Smart data aggregation for manageable database sizes without compromising
accuracy
- Predictive reporting on upcoming problems
- Powerful correlation graphs between servers, networks and applications
- Web interface offers minimal learning, ubiquitous access
- Automatic setup and discovery- operational within minutes
- Instant drill down from real-time status to historical trend and statistics
Business Containers
Fidelia's unique object oriented "container" technology allows you
to relate your applications and underlying servers or network to a service such
as eCommerce, payroll, finance, manufacturing, etc. This unique technology allows
you to correlate your business to your IT infrastructure and identify the impact
of your IT infrastructure to the delivery of business service to your customers.
Real-time Reporting
Fidelia's strength is in its reports and statistical information, ranging from
simple top-N tables to complex correlation graphs and trend reports using regression
analysis. You can move seamlessly between fault and performance reports, and
the real-time reporting engine displays statistics and reports within seconds
of your requesting the report.
The wealth of information available such as the
95th percentile, the trend analysis (days to threshold), the historical graphs
and histograms allow you to make informed decisions about the weaknesses and
performance of your IT infrastructure.
Smart Notification and Alerts
Fidelia's smart notification engine (SME) automatically suppresses transient
flaps, and prevents alarm floods based on topology and service dependencies.
The multi-stage alarm engine provides a comprehensive escalation process to
send notifications based on how long a device has been in warning or critical
condition, and on time of day and status on repeated polling. You can email,
page or run a custom script to restart a process based on the length of time
that a device has been in that state. The smart suppression engine uses complex
heuristics to avoid false suppression of alarms in redundant networks.
Extensible API for Custom Monitors
Both NetVigil and Helix have a plugin framework which allow you to interface
your custom scripts and monitors with these products, enabling notifications,
historical data collection and trend reports.
NetVigil automatically discovers all relevant metrics for enterprise applications
such as Oracle, SQL Server, Exchange, Citrix, Apache, IIS, Weblogic, MySQL, etc. and starts reporting on relevant
metrics right away. Most applications can be monitored using agentless technology, cutting down on the
deployment and management costs. Additionally, the URL transaction monitor can simulate end user transactions
and highlight the performance of services as experienced by the user.
Netvigil's server monitoring module can monitor Unix, Windows, IBM
mainframe systems and report on metrics such as disk utilization,
context switches, memory utilization, process or thread count, raid
controllers, etc. Netvigil interfaces seamlessly with
Compaq Insight Manager and Dell OpenManage agents providing a seamless
dashboard across your entire hetrogenous server infrastructure.
NetVigil's network monitoring module has support for Cisco, Juniper,
3Com, Nortel, Foundry and other routers as well as firewalls from
Netscreen, Fortinet, Cisco or Checkpoint. The network reporting module
gives trend and real-time status on line utilization, route flaps,
WLAN and other metrics.
Service Provider Module
NetVigil
SP has lots of powerful features especially for service providers such as SLA
reports, multi-user functionality which allows sharing reports with your customers,
localized polling and aggregation using smart DGEs so that traffic is constrained
within a datacenter, API to interface with other OSS products such as Remedy.
